I'm ready to move far away from the gulf coast. Hurricane Rita tried to kill us all. It was pretty exciting though, what with all the FEMA people trying to tell us what's up and the "U LOOT WE SHOOT" signs that were up in some parts of the town. We actually left (well, mom and my brother and sister did) and went to this shithole town called Chireno to stay with my uncles parents. Oh.my.god. I will NEVER go back there. I'd rather stay here in a hurricane and die. Really though, it was really nice of them to let us stay there because they don't know us at all, but it was so dang country. My uncles parents bought a bunch of land on this dirt road. Ok, that's cool. But now all of their children have built shacks on this dirt road and have all had a million kids. I'm not joking. I thought we were going to die, but oh was I wrong! When you're that deep in the woods, you're really safe. Like...I couldn't even tell the wind was blowing or that a hurricane had passed over us until we got out to drive home and were like wtf theres trees EVERYWHERE! Yeah, but dad had to stay in Beaumont because he's a firefighter and he stayed in the Entergy building (the biggest building in Beaumont) while the hurricane was actually coming through Beaumont and like all the windows blew out of it and stuff. AND, he talked to Shepard Smith which excited a few of my friends for some reason because OMG Shep is liek SOOOO HAWT!! ick.
We came back while it was still raining and stuff before the city people decided not to let people back in to Jefferson and Hardin counties. Then we messed around with FEMA and the red cross who were like..."ROAR!!! WE HATE YOU ALL!!" and my friends and I decided that everything about the government sucks because people who didn't have any damage at all to their houses and didn't have any evacuation expenses had gotten money from them and decided they go buy plasma tvs and stuff. So dumb! Oh and I met some hot national guard guys when I was driving back from work one night because they had all the exit ramps blocked off. It was crazy! I thought they were gonna shoot me for being out past the curfew or something, but I'm official so I flashed them my post office badge and they were like go forth to Lumberton, your majesty. (ok, they didn't really say that, but wouldn't it have been funny?)
We got electricity back like...2.5 weeks later and started back to Lamar Wednesday. So yep, I missed a month of school and we have hardly any Christmas break now, but atleast they didn't decide to cancel the semester. By the way, Lamar smells like mildew and wet paint because water got in all of the buildings and well, I'm not sure why it smells like paint. My music theory professor told us that there were about 1,000 gallons of water in the orchestra pit when he first saw it and it looked like a big swimming pool.
Anyhow, things are pretty much back to normal now except a lot of stores and stuff haven't opened yet and the ones that are open have really lame hours.
But yes, I'm ready to move now. I think almost everyone is.
